UrduCRASAC were approached by Southam College to deliver a workshop to their year 10 and 11 students to raise awareness of sexual violence and the local support available.
Initiated by a year 10 pupil, the school held a Sexual Violence Awareness Week to educate students around sexual violence and the importance of discussing the topic in a safe and secure environment.
170 students took part in the workshop which covered sexual violence and rape culture, types of sexual violence, consent, myths and stereotypes, the impact of sexual violence, barriers to disclosure and the support available.
“CRASAC’s presentation gave students an insight into what sexual violence is, how students can keep safe but moreover, where students can go for support. They were professional, understanding and compassionate, delivering a workshop which supported our social, moral, spiritual and cultural values and safeguarding culture. As a school, we believe resilience, confidence and kindness are at the heart of our community and CRASAC embedded this throughout their communication with students. This was an invaluable experience for our students and one which will certainly make a difference to our students, community, and society.”

I wanted to bring awareness to this subject as it’s something which is seen as a ‘taboo’ by many in society and people think it’s not as common as it is – but to create change sexual violence and abuse needs to be spoken about and treated with importance. (Jasmine, Year 10)
